Privacy policy

You can see straight to our grinder and honestly we want to keep the same policy throughout Othello. This page we tell you what we collect from you, why we do that and what we would never do with it. Keeping things transparent, just like our grinder.

Last updated July 2026

The short version

We only collect what we need to get a grinder to your door and to answer your emails.

We do not sell your data. Not to advertisers and not to anyone else. We personally hand over our grinders if we can and we will not grind anyone on our numbers except for ourselves.

We run no ad campaigns and no tracking pixels. So nothing from us is following you around on the internet. Promise.

Want your data gone? Send us one email and we take care of it.

Who we are

Othello Twist B.V.
A small Dutch company that spent two years building the final grinder you will own. We are the ones responsible for how your personal data gets handled on othellotwist.com. The GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation, the big European privacy law) calls that the data controller. I know, we never heard of it before as well.

What we collect and why

When you buy a grinder

To get your order from our hands into yours we ask for your name, email address, phone number, billing and shipping address and the details of your purchase. We need this to actually fulfil the order, which the law requires in order to process payments, prepare shipments, and maintain accurate records for returns or warranty claims.

(article 6 lid 1b GDPR if you want to look it up). We keep order records for 7 years. Not because we love paperwork but because the Belastingdienst says we have to. You know how they are.

When you contact us

If you send us a message through the contact form or by mail we keep your name, your email address and the message itself so we can actually reply to you. We hold on to the conversation for about 2 years and then it goes in the bin.

When you just visit

Our website runs on Squarespace and they collect some technical stuff to keep the site working and safe. Think your IP address, some info about your browser and device, and the pages you look at here. That same data gives us our anonymous visitor numbers, so we know which pages people actually read. Legally this falls under our legitimate interest to run a website that works.

Cookies

Yes we use cookies, the small text files on your device kind. Not the edible weed cookie kind, sadly. Ours come in two flavors.

Necessary cookies. Always on. They let Squarespace serve the site securely and keep your cart from forgetting what you put in it. The site simply does not work without them.

Analytics cookies. Only placed after you accept them in the cookie banner. They tell us anonymous things like how many people visited and which pages get read.

And that’s it. No marketing cookies, no ad trackers, no sneaky pixels. We don’t advertise so there is nothing to track you for anyway.

Who we share it with

Only the partners that help us run the shop. Never anyone who wants to sell you things.

Squarespace hosts our website and store. They process visitor and order data on our behalf. You can read their privacy policy here.

Our payment processor handles your payment details when you check out. We never see or store your card number ourselves. Here is Mollie’s privacy policy if you feel like reading two policies today.

Our shipping carrier gets your name and address. A grinder that never arrives is not much of a grinder.

Some of these companies are located outside the European Union. Squarespace is located in The United States, for example. Where that is the case the transfers are covered by the EU US Data Privacy Framework or the EU standard contractual clauses.

Emails from us

If you order something we will email you about it. Order confirmation, shipping updates, that sort of thing. Those you cannot unsubscribe from but lets be honest, you want to know where your grinder is.

We only send marketing emails if you signed up for them yourself, and every single one has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click and we leave your inbox in peace. No hard feelings.

Your rights

Under the GDPR (over here we call it the AVG) your data stays yours. You can always ask us what data we have about you, have us correct anything that’s wrong, have it deleted completely, limit or object to how we use it, take it with you in a portable format, or withdraw consent you gave us earlier. Any time you like.

Just email othellotwist@gmail.com and we sort it out within a week. We are simply 2 guys doing it out of passion, not a call center.

Not happy with how we handled something? You can file a complaint with the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens. But we would appreciate it if you talked to us first.

A note on age

Our products are meant for adults. This website is not directed at anyone under 18 and we don’t knowingly collect data from minors.
If you think we did, tell us and we delete it.

Security and changes

The site runs over SSL, that’s the little padlock in your browser. And access to customer data is limited to the people here who actually need it to help you.

If we ever change this policy we update this page and the date at the top.

Questions? Just reach out

We are an open book. With an open grinder. Pick whatever works for you.

Reachable

Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 17:00. Outside those hours we are probably testing the product or too high to not give a funny response. Use responsible.
